Ready 2 Level, Community Pillar, Birmingham Shared Prosperity Fund

Loconomy were appointed as the Learning Lead working with ten Community Anchor Organisations (CAOs)in East Birmingham exploring how they could work together and as individual organisations to play an active role in the East Birmingham Inclusive Growth Strategy adopted by Birmingham City Council.

Programme Overview

Using an Appreciative Inquiry approach supported by two mentors each organisation developed a Local Action Plan (ten in all) and participated in five Collaborative Learning Sessions as a cohort of ten organisations including attendance at a Look and See visit to look at best practice in the field in another city.

The CAOs identified in the programme evaluation, collectively, two overriding priorities for the future success of engaging community anchor organisations in an active partnership role in delivering Inclusive Growth. First, providing learning and development opportunities and capacity building on community assets as well as business and entrepreneurial support skills and a focus on growing local economies through grass roots action with a particular interest in women led economic development. Four CAOs from the ten formed a consortium to explore the women led economy strand in the Coalition for Impact programme. A further package of support has also been commissioned to provide support on community assets and business and entrepreneurial support.
